INDICATIONS:

Extrapyramidal disorder, drug- induced

Parkinson's disease

ABSOLUTE CONTRAINDICATIONS :

 

RELATIVE CONTRAINDICATIONS :

Cardiac arrhythmias

>> Cardiovascular instability

>> Dyskinesia, tardive

Extrapyramidal reactions, such as those resulting from phenothiazines or reserpine, in patients with mental disorders

>> Glaucoma, angle-closure, or predisposition to

>> Glaucoma, open-angle

Hepatic function impairment

Hypertension

>> Intestinal obstruction, complete, partial

>> Myasthenia gravis

Prostatic hypertrophy, moderate to severe

>> Urinary retention

Renal function impairment

 

ADULT DOSE:

Parkinsonism-Oral, initially 2.5 mg three times a day after meals. If tolerated, the dosage may be gradually increased to 5 mg three times a day and, occasionally, 5 mg at bedtime. Note: For patients being transferred from other therapy, 2.5 mg three times a day may be substituted for all or part of the original medication. The dose of procyclidine may be increased while the original medication is decreased until a level of maximum benefit is reached. Drug-induced extrapyramidal reactions-Oral, initially 2.5 mg three times a day, the dosage being increased in 2.5-mg increments per day as needed and tolerated.
