ADULT DOSE:

Antidiabetic agent-
As monotherapy-
Oral, initially 15 or 30 mg once daily without regard to meals. If the patient has an inadequate response to pioglitazone, the dose may be increased in increments up to 45 mg once daily .
In combination with insulin -
Oral, initially 15 or 30 mg once daily without regard to meals. When pioglitazone is initiated, the current insulin dose can be continued; however, if hypoglycemia occurs or if the plasma glucose concentration is 100 mg/dL or less, the dose of insulin should be decreased by 10% to 25% .
In combination with metformin -
Oral, initially 15 or 30 mg once daily without regard to meals. When pioglitazone is initiated, the current metformin dose can be continued. The metformin dose is unlikely to require adjustment due to hypoglycemia .
In combination with a sulfonylurea -
Oral, initially 15 or 30 mg once daily without regard to meals. When pioglitazone is initiated, the current sulfonylurea dose can be continued; however, if hypoglycemia occurs, the dose of the sulfonylurea should be decreased . |
